STEPS – simulating pedestrian dynamics

STEPS is an agent-based microsimulation tool developed by Mott MacDonald for the simulation of pedestrian movement under both normal and emergency conditions. Developed upon our extensive design and software engineering experience, STEPS is one of the most widely used pedestrian movement software tools in the world.
Mott MacDonald and its clients have used STEPS on projects worldwide, including the UK's Heathrow Terminal 5 station and transit system, the USA's New Yankee Stadium, Pakistan's Kollachi Enclave Tower, India's Delhi Airport, Australia's Adelaide Oval and Hong Kong's MTR Sha Tin to Central Link.

More technical information can be found in the secion About STEPS which outlines the key features and general principles of the software. STEPS can be licensed on an annual or ongoing basis and includes regular upgrades and technical support. The software installation comes with tutorials and comprehensive user documentation. Individual or group training is also available on request.

A free trial is available on the downloads page. The latest version of the STEPS software can be downloaded here. Further information about Mott MacDonald's dedicated pedestrian modelling and design consultancy service can be found here.
